Based in Newport-on-Tay, Fife, Dargie Architect was established by Neil Dargie in 2021, with the core aims of delivering simple and imaginative architecture, built to high standards and grounded in the principles of energy efficiency and sustainable design.
Specialising in domestic buildings but working across the commercial sector too, Dargie Architect works throughout Scotland, but primarily focuses on the east coast particularly Fife, including in the areas in-and-around Newport on Tay, Wormit, Tayport, St Andrews, Cupar, and the East Neuk, as well as in Dundee, Broughty Ferry, Carnoustie and Angus, and into Perth and Kinross, taking in Perth, Aberfeldy, Blairgowrie, Crieff and Dunkeld & Birnam.
With experience and expertise in the building of new build houses, renovations, extensions and deep retrofits, alongside commercial projects such as offices or retail units, Dargie Architect offers services including feasibility studies, preparation and submission of Planning applications, Building warrants and Passivhaus, energy-efficient and ecologically minded design.
Neil graduated from The University of Dundee in 2008 with a Masters in Architecture. With almost 20 years of practice-based experience working in studios throughout Scotland, Ireland and England, Neil has won awards and recognition from his peers and the construction industry for his work, having led as Project Architect on dozens of projects across multiple sectors. Notable projects have included new, extended and renovated houses, a swimming pool building, office renovations, an estate management complex, and mixed use retail units.
Neil is presently a part-time year 3 architecture studio tutor at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, and is an examiner with APEAS, Scotland’s body for Examination in Professional Practice and Management (also called the Part 3 Examination) in architecture. He has previously taught and lectured to students at Wuhan University.
Neil is a fully certified Passivhaus Designer, and is committed to practicing sustainable building methods.
